Bayer Leverkusen hopes for the best

Bayer Leverkusen did well in their first Uefa Champions League clash against Atletico madrid and they will be hoping that they continue their winning streak when they face the La Liga side in the second leg.The talented young player Hakan Calhanoglu scored the only game in the match to ensure that the Bundesliga side secures an advantage going to the second game of the competition that will be played in Spain.Bayer Leverkusen qualifies for the knockout stages of the Champions League for the first time in 13 years and will go face Atletico with positive attitude and winning mentality.

The Bundesliga side has not been doing well in the European Competition in the past couple of years, they lost to Liverpool 6-2 on aggregate in 2005 and were humiliated by Barcelona 10-2 on aggregate in the 2010 season of the competition. They also lost to PSG with a 6-1 aggregate in the last Champions League and they are hoping to change all of this misfortune when they face Atletico Madrid on the second leg of the competition on 17 March. The German based side will be hoping to continue from where they left of in the first leg when they travel to Spain.

Bayer Leverkusen were statistically the only German Bundesliga club to have won the first leg of this season’s Uefa Champions League after Borussia Dortmund lost 2-1 to Juventus and Bayern Munich played to a 0-0 draw with Shaktar Donetsk while Shalke had lost 2-0 to Real Madrid .Dortmund have a great chance of  qualifying to the last eight as they managed to score an away goal against Juventus in the first leg.Dortmund will only need one goal in order to proceed to the last eight of the tournament and they are the likely side to qualify for the next round as they will be backed by home fans who will be the 12th man.

Bayern Munich are also the likely side to qualify for the next round when they play Shaktar Donetsk in Munich in the second leg of the Champions League. Bayern played to a 0-0 draw against Schalke in Ukraine and will be looking to beat Schalke convincingly when they played the Ukrainian side at home next week. Bayern Munich are always dominant at home and it is going to be a difficult task for Shaktar Donetsk to beat the Bundesliga champions at their own back yard.

The Bundesliga clubs will be hoping to draw inspiration from FC Schalke who beat Real Madrid 4-3 away on Tuesday night.Even though the young German based side did not qualify for the last eight the still displayed character to beat the Spanish La Liga giants at home, Bayer  Leverkusen will be also  hoping to draw inspiration from Schalke fighting spirit they pulled against Real Madrid. The German sides however will not be playing clubs that are looking to loose and not qualify for the last eight.

Juventus were hoping to seal it in the first match against Borussia Dortmund but a goal by Marco Reus gave Juventus a reason to go guns blazing when they go to Germany for the second leg.The Serie A based side are not going to Dortmund with intentions to loose but will be travelling there to register a spot in the second round of the Uefa Champions League competitions. They won the first game 2-1 and a goal in Dortmund will probably seal their fate to the last 8 of the competition.

Shaktar Donetsk on the other hand did well to hold back Bayern Munich when they played them at home in the first leg. They are also hoping to qualify for the last eight in the competition and will go to Munich with a positive attitude and will surely do their best go through to the quarter finals. Shaktar striker Luiz Adriano has done well in the competition and has scored over 9 goals, the young forward will be hoping to continue his scoring streak for the team.

Shaktar must fight for a goal in Munich to increase their chances of beating Bayern, if they go to the game with a defensive attitude they will struggle. They are facing a side that is experienced in the Champions League competition and that is almost invincible at home, in order to beat them they must go to Germany with an attacking mentality because they have nothing to loose.
