Atletico manager Diego Simeone is certain that his club has a fair chance of qualifying for the last eight of the Champions League after the team managed to play a good game away at Leverkusen not allowing the German side to score more goals, the game ended with a 1-0 loss for the Spanish side but the Simeone feels it was a good result which gives them an opportunity to win at home. The Spanish club is however favorites going to this game, even though they failed to score at home they still have a big chance of going through to the last eight. Leverkusen will have to ensure that they go to this game with motivation and positive attitude, it will not be an easy task to beat Atletico at home or even to keep a clean sheet.
Leverkusen dominated most of the game especially after Tiago Mendez got a red card, the Bundesliga side scored at the 57th minute courtesy of Hakan Calhanoglu. Diego Simeone cited that he is happy with the outcome even though they lost, the club will go to the second leg with intent to dominate the match. The club will go to the second leg all out to win,the inexperienced Leverkusen side will not go down without a fight though, even though they have not gone far in the past Uefa Champions league competitions.
Atletico should have done better in this game especially with the club’s experience in the Uefa Champions League competition. The club reached the finals of the competition last season but was beaten by Real Madrid in the finals, the match that they should have won as they were leading until the last two to three minutes of the match. However the club still managed to win the domestic league, getting the better of usual suspects Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
