FC Juventus are keen to defend the Serie A tittle according to newly signed Moroccan defender Medhi Benatia. According to the club’s website the central defender, who is on loan from Bayern Munich said on Thursday that he and the rest of his teammates are ready to start the season on a high.
“We’ve worked hard and prepared thoroughly. The summer is the perfect time to lay the foundations for the season ahead.Continued the player in an interview with Sky Sports and Mediaset
“We’re happy to be kicking off the campaign this weekend. Expectations are high and, while it may seem on the outside that success will be a formality, we can’t and won’t be taking anything for granted.” He added.
Benatia also commented on the importance of individual talent in the team: “Up front we’re fortunate to have great players among our ranks. If Higuain and Dybala were to hit the same sort of numbers as last season and we keep things tight at the back, then we’d be making solid steps towards the title” , added Benatia.
The Moroccan also expressed his views on the Juve defence saying: “Regarding our rearguard, it’s a pleasure working with such great defenders that you can learn a lot from.
Then there’s the captain. I’ve come up against him many times in the past and I’ve always had immense respect for his career and what he stands for. He’s a role model for all youngsters.” said Benatia.
Juventus will face Fiorentina on their first match on Saturday night as they hope to begin the season on a high note. The Italian giants have been consistent and have won the league three times in a row since the 2011/12 season.
Apart from their domestic success, Juventus have not been impressive in Europe. The club has always come short when playing European Giants such as Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
