Feyenoord qualifies for Europa League

Dutch outfit Feneyoord has qualified for the Europa League after they outsmarted Sevilla beating them 2-0 at home. Jens Toornstra and Karim El Ahmadi scored the goals for the home team making sure that they book their qualifier spot. Sevilla will now play HNK Rijeka to fight for the final qualifying place when both clubs meet in Spain in 2 weeks time.

The game started very slowly but picked up when Jordy Clasie’s shot from a long distance was saved by the keeper.Both teams did not create many chances in the second half as the game was too tectical thus the game went to half time without any goals.The teams from each side created chances but it was the Eredivisie side that took the lead after 56 minutes when Toonstra converted the chance after an effective El Ahmadi assist.

Sevilla scored the goal soon after but the goal was ruled offside.Feyenoord continued to attack and almost scored a second goal after a counter attack.Feyenoord ensured the game is sealed after the converted another opportunity in the 83rd minute thanks to El Ahmadi beautiful shot.The game ended 2-0 with the home side snatching the three points at home.

Sevilla managed to score again but the the offside flag was raised. Feneyoord almost converted in a counter but the goal unfortunately hit the side netting,but the Dutch side ensured that they seal the game in the last seven minutes when Kazim Combined with El Ahmadi who fired a shot far from Sergio Rico’s reach making sure that the hosts register a win and qualify for the European competition.

Sevilla

Sevilla Football Club is Spain’s oldest club based in Seville which is the largest capital city of Andalusia.Sevilla plays in the Spanish top flight football league called the La Liga.The club was established in 1890 by Edward Farguharson Johnston who was their first president.The club is one of the most consistent clubs in Spain and they have always maintained a good position in the La Liga competition.

Sevilla is the most successful club in Andalusia, they have won atleast 10 Cup tittles since their inception.These include five Spanish Cups,three UEFA Cups and also the Super Uefa Cup.In 2006 and 2007 the club was announced as the Worlds best club by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics. Sevilla was the first club in history to be named Worlds best club by the federation in two consecutive years.

Although they are competitive in the La Liga domestic league, Sevilla has struggled to win the league tittle and has been frequently by passed by top sides such as Atletico Madrid,Barcelona and Real Madrid.The club has managed however to win the Uefa Europa League that they claimed last season, Sevilla are top four in the domestic Spanish league looking to compete for the La Liga tittle.

Feyenoord

Feyenoord Rotterrdam plays in the Dutch professional league known as the Eredivisie.The club was founded in 1908 and is one of the most successful clubs in the Nerthelands with 14 Eredivisie tittles,eleven KNVB Cups and 2 Johan Cruijff  shield competitions. Feyenoord is one of of the biggest and oldest teams in Netherlands and have won many tittles in the Dutch league.The club has an academy in Africa and invests a lot in developing young players who mostly end up contributing in the Ducth national team.

The Dutch club has also won two Uefa Cup and as well as one European Cups . Feyenoord is one of the three clubs in the Eredivisie that has never been relegated to the lower divisions,the other two being Ajax Amsterdam and PSV Eindhoven. The club side has always been consistent in the Holland domestic league and they have developed a lot of players for the Dutch team over the years.

Feneyoord is known as the club of the people,the team  has a large margin of national support and they have been mostly successful in 1960’s and 70’s where they won six league tittles,two European trophies and an Intercontinental cup. Feneyoord is the first Dutch team to win both the European cup and the Intercontinental cup,the club has participated consistently in the European competitions but has not been winning tittles in the last couple of years.They have always managed to stay on the Eredivisie but have not won the domestic tittle in a while.
