League Cup:Liverpool and Leeds to face off

 

Liverpool and Leeds United will face off in the League Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night. Having lost last season’s  final in a penalty shootout against Manchester City at Wembley stadium, The Reds are seeking to move one step further to this year’s finals. As they hope to do better this year ,Jurgen Klopp’s men  will face Gary Monk’s championship side Leeds United tonight at Anfield. After frustrations by Chelsea and Manchester City in their last two League Cup campaigns , Liverpool is keen to lift the domestic cup trophy this year.

 

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was part of the squad that lost to Chelsea in the 2014/15 season’s  League Cup semi-finals. The Reds were eliminated in the  second leg of the semi-finals on extra time . The Belgian shot stopper  is understandably eager to make amends and help his team make history this time around.The Reds have been given a  difficult task to beat The Whites on at Anfield on Tuesday night  . Mignolet has consistently insisted that his side does not underestimate the visitors . The Belgian international mentioned on the club website that his side’s priority is to win trophies.

 

The stopper also admitted on the Liverpool  website that his side wants the League Cup to be the first silverware they clinch this season. Mignolet told the club’s website that his teammates will need to stay focus and be  in the “right frame of mind” to get the victory against Gary Monks’s Leeds United. The Whites are currently at fifth position in the Championship standings having beaten Rotherham United 2-1 on the weekend.They travel to Anfield with a boost of confidence as they hope to frustrate hosts Liverpool in front of their supporters .

Legendary Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler (who also played for Leeds United) has urged Liverpool to respect their opponents and treat this game as another Premier League match.
