Orlando Pirates overwhelmed Chippa United with a 2-0 beating last night in the Absa Premiership match that saw the Soweto giants dominate most of the match especially the first half,this is a first victory for Orlando Pirates against Chippa United ever since both teams have played against each otherin the Premier Soccer league.Pirates were all over Chippa in the first half of the match and this saw Bucs score their first goal in the first few minutes of the match credit to play maker Mpho Makola who headed it in past the Chippa United goalkeeper after a quality cross that was whipped by Sfiso Myeni.
The absence of Thamsanqa Sangweni in the Chippa midfield saw Orlando Pirates dominate the middle courtesy of Manyisa , Ntshumayelo and Makola who had most of the ball and could create opportunities for the Bucs. This saw Kermit Erasmus getting a chance to convert a goal in the 21st minute of the first half but missed. Chippa were lacking in the first half and Pirates continued to create more opportunities in the match but they were not accurate in the box and ended up missing a couple of chances.However Orlando Pirates came back in the 27th minute with another goal when Sifiso Myeni scored a second goal for Pirates making it 2-0 for Bucs.
The half time finished with Pirates ahead with a 2-0 advantage whilst Chippa were behind,this was a test for Middendorp to come back to the second half with more effective strategies to get back to the game.The second half saw a changed Chippa United side that dominated the center of the field and they looked like a side that was going to score but they failed to combine the final passes in the Pirates box. Chippa continued to press but a goal never came for them,an introduction of skillful Rakhala for Pirates saw the game change as they started doing more with the ball especially in the wings.
Pirates created more chances as a result Kermit Erasmus got another opportunity in the 78th minute which saw the Chippa goalkeeper pull a good save giving his team hopes of staying in the match.Pirates continued to press throughout the game but Chippa United had a game plan coming back to the second half.Eventually the match ended with a win for Orlando Pirates who are now second in the the Absa Premiership Log standings.
Amazulu fights for another win
Bidvest Wits hopes of competing for the domestic league tittle we halted by Amazulu on Tuesday after the Clever Boys lost to the Durban side by 3-1 last night at the Moses Mabhida stadium. Amazulu came to this game with hopes of getting three points as they look to escape away from the relegation zone.First half saw Amazulu going all out to attack and the first goal when Mbulelo Mabizela converted an opportunity, the Durban based side came back with another goal courtesy of Goodman Dlamini making sure the side goes to the second half with a two goal advantage.
Amazulu are now at 16 points with 22 games played and they will be hoping to continue doing well in the last remaining matches of the domestic premier league.The team proved last night that they are not willing to go to the first division without a fight and they have managed to get seven points out of three games.They started the match positively with Goodman Dlamini heading the ball over the bar and Ntuli’s shot getting saved by the goalkeeper minutes later.
Wits were not pushovers either in this match and managed to pull one back courtesy of Papy Faty in the second half even though it was too late. Jabulani Shongwe also tried to create something for the visitors but his shot went wide and did not trouble the keeper at all. The Durban based side continued to put more pressure on wits but more goals did not come, Ngcobo’s header in the 36th minute did not give Wits goalkeeper any problems.
Amazulu will go to their next games with high confidence and are likely to do well and escape relegation,they will need to win most of their remaining matches in order to participate in the Premier Soccer League in the upcoming season. If Amazulu are relegated they will be a second Kzn team to be outplayed to the first division,Golden Arrows were relegated to the first division last season.
