PSG superior over Chelsea

Paris Saint Germain manager Laurent Blanc has praised his team performance after a good display of quality football against Chelsea in the Uefa last 16 second leg match played on Wednesday night. The ten men PSG showed superiority and beat English Premier League champions Chelsea after a series of unforeseen events during the match. The French Ligue 1 champions overcame the Blues and progressed to the last 8 of the competition after the match ended 2-2 and allowed PSG to go through because of the away goal advantage ending the game with a final score 3-3 on aggregate.

PSG overcame challenges after their influential striker Zlatan Ibrahamovich was sent off by a red card to to a 50-50 tackle that left Oscar injured. The red card was very soft and as a result the game changed and became very physical throughout the whole 90 minutes.More yellow cards were issued to boith teams as the referee had lost control of the game. However even after these incidents the match was very entertaining and is probably on of the best matches ever played in the history of the Uefa Champions League.

The match was balanced in the start of the first half with both sides being effective when they get the ball but it was the French Ligue 1 side that dominated in the midfield and created opportunities.Chelsea also played well in the beginning of the first half and created opportunities of themselves. After Ibrahamovich was sent off it looked like PSG had found inspiration and motivation to go on and win the game. They dominated in the midfield with combination passes and did not allow Chelsea to play in the center of the field.

Motta,Verratti and Pastore were very influential for the French Ligue 1 side in the second half as they dominated the middle of the field and did not allow Ramires in the middle to play at all.The match went to half time with a 0-0 draw and the second half would see a change for Chelsea as Oscar was taken for Willian going to the second half. The change for Chelsea saw them getting more pace in the right wing as Ramires had shifted to the center with Willian now playing in the wing saw more crosses being whipped to the Paris Saint Germain box.

The first goal came with Chelsea’s Gary Cahill in the 81st minute after a rebound in the by the PSG defence and it looked like the English Premiership giants were through to the next round but it was not to be as Luiz equalized a few minutes later with a beautiful header the left the goalkeeper stranded. The match went to extra time with the score being 1-1 and 2-2 on aggregate and more drama occurred when PSG captain committed a handball foul in the box  causing the referee to blow for the penalty that was converted by Eden Hazard.

It was not over by a long shot when Silva who had committed a penalty came back to score for the French Ligue 1 side when the whipped cross found the captain who did not hesitate to capitalize on the opportunity.Paris Saint Germain were to be the victors of the day as they won the match with away goals after a 3-3 aggregate score.Ironically Chelsea won against PSG with the same 3-3 on aggregate score in last season’s Uefa Champions League semi finals. but this time around it was bound to be the French former champions who were going through.

Chelsea coach Jose Morinho cited that the visitors played well and they deserved to go through after a fighting spirit display that they showed on Wednesday by beating Chelsea who are almost invincible at home. The “special one” also mentioned that they will not be thinking about this game that has passed but will be switching their focus back to the English Premier league where they are leading the log standing with five points.Chelsea are now looking to claim at least one silverware this season and the Premiership will be what they will be fighting for from now onward.

Bayern Munich are also through to the last eight after they humiliated Shaktar Donetsk  7-0 in Munich last night.FC Porto,Bayern Munich ,Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid are the four teams that have made it through to the quarter finals. The last teams to play in the last 16 this upcoming week will be :
